Jerry Lawler Arrested and Suspended by WWE for Domestic Violence

Jerry Lawler and his fiancé are facing domestic assault charges in Tennessee.

According to the WWE and numerous news outlets, Lawler has been suspended from ringside commentary. The official statement from WWE reiterated this suspension was in line with company policy:

“WWE has zero tolerance for matters involving domestic violence, and per our policy, Jerry Lawler has been suspended indefinitely following his arrest.”

According to WFSB.com, the incident occurred around 1 a.m. on Friday morning, and both the 66-year-old Lawler and his 27-year-old fiancé (Lauryn McBride) were booked into the Shelby County Jail. The two have lived together for the last 5 years.

The affidavit states that the two were involved in a confrontation at Lawler’s home in East Memphis but since both parties claim the other is to blame it is nearly impossible to determine who is at fault. McBride alleges Lawler hit her in the head and pushed her against a stove while Lawler claims McBride scratched his face, gave him a low blow, and threw a candle at him.

But it gets weirder.

In a more violent-if-true twist, McBride claims that Lawler went upstairs, came down with a handgun, put it on the kitchen counter and told her to kill herself.

Lawler countered this metaphorical submission hold by claiming that McBride was the one who brought the gun into the kitchen. He also claims that she has intoxicated, which almost goes without saying during these sorts of incidents.

Lawler has been a local celebrity in Memphis for more than 40 years and even ran for Mayor several times.

This isn’t his first brush with the law, however. He was arrested in 1999 for throwing a ticket at a Memphis police officer and then running over his foot.
